“My mother taught my sisters and me to embroider when we were pretty young,” said Tina Virshup, a little monster friend sewing volunteer. Tina has created four intricately embroidered little monsters, one of whom went to our little ambassador CJ. She continued: “I made my Mom teach me how to sew clothes when I was in middle school… I got into quilting in my 20s, completely self taught. It is a pastime that I still love to do. Since I retired, I was long for smaller, more portable things to work on. I saw a call on social media for volunteers to embroider quilt blocks handmade by youth at the Social Justice Sewing Academy. The stars and planets aligned: embroidery, quilting, sewing—all with a beautiful purpose in mind. It was through the SJSA that I learned about the Little Green Monster Project and signed up to make a monster. This s a veryrewarding project to work on. It’s nice to work with people who put their energies into making this world better for others who are struggling with hardships,. And it’s wonderful to be able to participate.”
— Thank you, Tina, for your creative commitment to children impacted by cancer!
